So since I'm new to this whole blogging thing, I thought I would start my first actual post about how we first started...
Michael is a very special kind of person. He is definitely not the life of the party, he would never walk up to a group of people and just start talking to them and he would not even think to buy a girl a drink at the bar. He is the guy who would walk through a group of people to take the drunk girl from the "life of the party" guy, help her out to a cab, pay for her ride home and never say a word about it to anyone. Michael joined the military when he was fresh out of high school, he went to boot camp and very shortly after was sent on a 12 month deployment to Afghanistan. He refuses to wear his uniform in public, doesn't get free things on Veterans Day and wont accept a "Thank you" from a stranger because he genuinely feels like it's just his job. Michael puts every single person in his life before himself and really doesn't do much for himself at all, he hasn't had many serious relationships and then one day he prayed for Heavenly Father to, if it his will, put someone in his life.
I am a very outgoing, obnoxious, loud person. I am an insane perfectionist, and at times incredibly immature and dramatic. When I am super mad, upset or freshly broken up with {which will never happen again ayooo!} I have a very bad habit of packing up all of my things and moving to Tennessee. Sometimes it lasts for a week, sometimes it lasts for longer, but it always happens. This was the point I was at when I met Michael. If any of you know me, or have known me for a while you would know I'm a creature of very long relationships. When I was 19, turning 20 a very important one to me, at the time, had just dramatically ended. I had promised my Daddy I would never run back to Tennessee again, so with that I was stuck here. After a few unsuccessful dates, I for the first time in my life since I was a boy crazy 7 year-old said "No more guys, I will not talk to another man until I really can see myself with them forever".
Upon Michael's return back to the US in 2011 he didn't have much schooling at the time and he decided he was a big, strong dude so he would become a bouncer at a country bar. I, being the crazy person I am, figured that a country bar was the closest thing I was going to get to to being in Tennessee while still in Arizona. So much to my families dismay, put on some daisy dukes, strapped on some cowboy boots and off I went to become a cocktail waitress at a country bar too in August of 2012.
Per usual, one day before my shift I was complaining how there are no "good old boys" in Arizona and that everyone was a Scottsdale loving, Affliction wearing, Lexus driving d-bag when a bartender said "there are few guys here that aren't like that at all, like this guy Bobby, talk to him..oh no wait, I think he has a girlfriend". Obviously, I was bummed, but still wanted to keep an eye out so just in case he was suddenly single, I could jump right on in there.
A few days later I was working my usual Friday night shift when at around 12 am one of those Scottsdale loving, Affliction wearing, Lexus driving d-bags would NOT leave me alone. I was doing my best to be nice to him but still keep my distance when out of no where some dude comes up and says "That's my girlfriend man, I'm going to have to ask you to back off" and they both walked away. I was kind of in shock at how fast it all happened and how that had never happened to me before, like who doesn't want a knight in shining bar armor to come and do that you know? But I didn't know who he was, or where he was, or what he was so I went on with my business and wrote it off as a nice guy doing something for a girl who was very obviously uncomfortable.
The next day I was working again and I heard someone say "Hey Girlfriend.." and I turned around to see my coworkers Lowen, Emily and some hot guy wearing a black shirt with big arms looking at me. Then Lowen said "So I heard Bobby was your new work boyfriend?" I said "Well, I would assume so, I'm Katie, but you can call me girlfriend I guess" we shook hands and I walked away, obviously having a small heart attack.
IF ANY GIRL IS READING THIS---UH HIIIIIIII THE HOT GUY SOMEONE TOLD YOU ABOUT YOU THOUGHT WAS SO GREAT, BUT THOUGHT HAD A GIRLFRIEND JUST CALLED YOU HIS WORK GIRLFRIEND AND RESCUED YOU FROM A SCOTTSDALE COWBOY THE DAY BEFORE,
I was smitten.
But what about that girlfriend......."Bobby" had been flirting with me the rest of the night and going against girl code, I was flirting back. He left that night without getting my number and I just had to rule it off as another guy who was just a flirt. It wasn't until the next night that the actual subject was brought up "Wait...you don't actually have a boyfriend though..right?" SCOREEEEE! He didn't have a girlfriend either. We stayed in the parking lot talking that night until 5 am and the next night he showed up to work with a yellow rose and took me fishing for our first real date, followed by a facebook add where I had a small freakout because I thought I had been calling this hunk of man flipping BOBBY and his real name was MICHAEL only to find out it was simply a nick name, followed then by 3 more fishing dates. The next week he asked me to be his real girlfriend and not just his work girlfriend anymore and the week after that we were in loveeeeee....that was 409 days ago. Michael officially proposed on October 26th at the lake where we first went fishing. I simply cannot believe I get to spend the rest of time and all eternity with literally, my "knight in shiny bar armor"
